Countries Where You Can’t Visit as an American
With a passport and the correct visas, there are very rare places that are completely off limits to Americans who wish to see the world. But in our recent society, there are places around the world where western tourists are not only unwelcome, but may be targeted during their travels. And five countries where you can’t visit as an American are going to discuss in this blog. The United States Department of State maintains a list of travel warnings for tourists around the world. These warnings range from advisories of situations happening around the world, to warnings to leave instantly due to natural disasters or political circumstances. Now, there are five nations that are on the State Department “Do Not Go,” list, due to distant danger. Be sure to think twice before you make plans to go these five countries where you can’t visit as an American.
No-Travel List: Central African Republic:
Since 2013, the Central African Republic has been included in a military coup that overthrew the government. Since then, the land-locked nation in Central Europe has started to rebuild, with calm elections and a transitional government intact. However, though the procedure towards returning to normal has started, the nation remains very unstable.
The State Department gossips that fighting between Christian and Muslim militants is still a mutual problem throughout the Central African Republic. And westerners who stopover the country even those who want to help with relief labors are often exactly targeted.
The U.S. Embassy in Bangui postponed their operations at the end of 2012, and have not yet resumed offering services to Americans in the country. Instead, the Defensive Power for U.S. citizens has been moved to the French Embassy. Additionally, the borders among the Central African Republic and Chad have been closed, and only inhabitants of Chad returning home are allowed to move across the borders.
Exceptional trips to Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Burkina Faso
With no consular defenses in place, and western tourists being considered as a target, the Central African Republic is now very unsafe for American tourists. Anyone considering this country should unconditionally think twice. And can say that these are one of those countries where you can’t visit as an American.
Libya, One of those countries where you can’t visit as an American:
The problems in Libya have been well recognized over the past years. Starting with the 2011 civil war that prepared the previous dictatorship, to the attacks on U.S. Embassies, tourists to the North African country have been often warned to stay away for their own safety as it’s on the top of the list where you can’t visit as an American.
Earlier in 2014, the U.S. State Department suspended all embassy facilities in the war torn country, citing sustained political unrest all the way through the nation. Though the parliament is soon to be fully settled, violence continues to be sporadic, and can break out at any time.
With high crime levels and a doubt that all American workers are government spies, touring to Libya should not be high on anyone’s list anytime soon. The U.S Government has continued to put out notices, and one each one the communication is clear: anyone coming from western culture should preclude Libya at all costs.
No-Travel List: Eritrea:
Though you may have never heard of this country on the northeast coast of Africa, Eritrea is very well alert of their situation in the world. In 2013, the government issued limits on all foreign tourists to the small country. Anyone who plans on holiday at – diplomats involved – must apply for a visa well ahead of time before they can reach in Eritrea. It’s also included on those countries where you can’t visit as an American.
To make matters more difficult: each visa is escorted by a travel permit, detailing where a tourist can go. Visitors are not permitted to divert from their approved journey, even to religious sites near main cities. Those who travel outside of their visas and travel permits have been known to face a number of punishments. Examples contain detention, having drivers arrested, and the denial of exit visas to U.S. visitors.
In calculation, the country has made their own armed citizen militias which are authorized to take the law into their own hands. These groups work at night, checking peoples and citizens for certification. If an individual cannot deliver documentation, they are subject to arrest and detention directly.
Although the U.S. Embassy remains open, officials cannot warranty that they can offer assistance to travelers. Therefore, the State Department has disheartened all visits to the small nation. While the religious foundation of Eritrea have been known as a pilgrimage site for Eastern Orthodox worshippers, those who try to variety the trek may not make it back.
While the world is a lovely place, it may not be the kindliest for international voyagers. By avoiding these three countries where you can’t visit as an American, you can make sure that your travels stay safe and protected, without worries of being in danger as you travel the world.
